At a recent meeting of the Northern Canola Growers Association, Pat Murphy of Minot was re-elected Board President, Dan Marquardt of Bottineau was re-elected Vice President and Tim Mickelson of Rolla was re-elected Treasurer.
The NCGA Board also reviewed research proposals for the canola industry for 2020. Over $400,000 in research requests were received by the NCGA. $325,000 in award funding was granted to 10 projects. Those projects cover canola breeding and genetic diversity in canola, disease and insect surveys, addressing soil salinity, finding blackleg tolerance and freezing tolerance in canola, assessing canola population and fertility under irrigation practices, and evaluating canola cultivars and soil amendments to manage clubroot.
These research projects are critical in ensuring canola remains a profitable and competitive crop in this region.
